ROAD SAFETY 2022
The 2022 NTSA Statistics shows us that we are losing a lot of people through road related accidents with more than 4300 people losing their lives between January and November 2022. This is a huge number of lives lost, actually losing one life is far too many.
Some of the leading causes of road accidents in Kenya are: –
• Wreckless driving
• Drunk driving
• Over speeding
• Low visibility
• Poor Road conditions
• Poor Vehicle Condition
• Distraction – Texting, Chatting, Calling, and other forms of distraction either from inside or outside the vehicle.
• Drowsiness and Fatigue
Drivers and other road users should be road safety conscious always and practice the following: –
Obey all traffic signs and regulations
Drive defensively with the right attitude
Avoid following other vehicles too close and yield/give way where necessary.
Always Be Alert, Awake and Aware when driving
Avoid any form of distraction either from inside or outside the vehicle
Be visible
Be prepared for others to make mistakes – Anticipate
Know and understand your car
Always do a situation analysis when driving
Discipline and Courtesy should be observed always.
Be Responsible, Proactive, Resilient, Careful, Cautious and Vigilant always when on the road.
Road Safety is both an individual and collective responsibility that starts with Me/You/All of Us and is as simple as ABC (Always Be Careful).
