A culture of Road Safety is an ideal we should all commit to because it is a weighty matter.
Friends, think about this; Every year we lose on average 3,000 lives through road accidents. Think About that. What is Three Thousands(3,000) like? This is like a whole Mega Church, or 3 public primary schools, or a whole village all consumed. If you put all those bodies in a stadium like Kasarani, you can literally cover the whole pitch with the bodies. That is how serious it is.
Every Kenyan has lost a family member, neighbor, friend or colleague through road accident thus we have all experienced the painful loss.
Ever thought of the number of people who end up disabled after an accident? Some lose their sights, lose their body organs, spinal injuries etc.
Do you have an idea of how many orphans we have out of those accidents? What about parents who bury their young ones prematurely and they spend their lives mourning?
How many lose their jobs because their boss/employer was involved in an accident leading to disability or death leading to closure of their business thus several people left jobless out of the incident?
As an Emergency First Responder with more than 10 years response experience I can tell you that any person who witnesses a grisly road accident whether the victims, bystanders, police or response team are always left with painful memories out of the incident.
I am conducting a country wide Road Safety Campaign which I have called The Amb Steve Mbugua Road Safety Campaign 2019 where I will be sensitizing the public on matters Road Safety with a mission to help build a culture of Safety at all places and my target is to sensitize 1,000,000 people before December 2019.
3, 000 people is not a number to overlook. We need to be proactive and look for a solution as a people without pointing fingers. I have always said that Safety is both an individual and collective responsibility and starts with me/you/us. Let us join hands to build a culture of Safety and Wellness on our roads. Think Safety, Act Safely. Arrive Alive
