The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign to promote safe, healthy, and decent work environments. Observed on 28th April every year, this day raises global awareness about the importance of preventing workplace accidents, injuries, and diseases.

Theme for World Safety Day 2025

The theme for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 focuses on the impacts of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) on workers’ safety and health. This theme will examine various new technologies through an occupational safety and health lens, including: Advanced robots.
“Creating Safe Work Environments in a Changing World: Innovations and Resilience”

This theme underscores the need for adaptive strategies and technological innovations to address emerging occupational risks, ensuring that every worker enjoys a safe and healthy workspace.

The History and ILO’s Mandate

The International Labour Organization (ILO) initiated World Safety Day in 2003 as a crucial step in advancing the global agenda for occupational safety and health. The ILO’s mandate is to set international labor standards, develop policies, and devise programs promoting decent work for all. As part of its commitment, the ILO collaborates with governments, employers, and workers to foster safer workplaces worldwide.

My Mission as a Global Safety Ambassador

As Ambassador Steve Mbugua, a globally recognized Ambassador of Safety, I am committed to building a culture of safety across all sectors — workplaces, churches, schools, and communities. My mission is to create awareness, conduct training, and champion safety initiatives that prevent accidents and save lives.

Through my work at Nairobi Safety Shop — the largest one-stop safety shop globally — and Makinika Afrika International, Africa’s largest first aid and safety training institution, I have trained over 100,000 first aiders and responded to 270+ major incidents as an emergency first responder.

My goal is simple yet powerful: to make safety a lifestyle.
